My compilation to support/show the Sacredness, Greatness and Sweetness of Telugu language.

Tuesday, 3 March 2009

Below I gave some very good Supporting Arguments that I collected over the internet.
Though NUMEROUS usual arguments exist, these are the arguments that I found unusual/not-easy-to-find/rare to support the sacredness, greatness and sweetness of Telugu.

1) Lord Rama wanted the translation of the Sanskrit version of Bhagavatam to Telugu.

"One early morning during a lunar eclipse, on the banks of river Godavari, Pothana(a Telugu poet best known for his translation of the Bhagavatam from Sanskrit) was meditating on Lord Shiva. At that auspicious moment, Lord Rama appeared dressed like a king and requested Pothana to translate Bhagavatam into Telugu and dedicate it to Him. This inspired him to translate Vyasa’s Sanskrit Bhagavatam into Telugu."

The above lines are taken from the Wikipedia article on Bammera Pothana.

2) The Telugu version of Bhagavatam contains a few lines written by Lord Rama himself.

"The story goes that Pothana wrote the first line of the verse, but could not continue (because he did not know how vaikuntha looks!). So he paused the writing at that point, and went to farm (he was a cultivator by profession). When he came back in the evening, he saw the verse completed. He enquired his daughter about who wrote the other three lines. The daughter replied - "You yourself came in the afternoon and wrote something!". So Pothana understood that Lord Sri Rama himself came and completed the verse."

The above lines are taken from the Wikipedia article on Bammera Pothana.
Telugu people are greatly indebted to the most beloved poet Bammera Pothana.

3) Something like …..“Telugu Existed Before Sanskrit Came Into Existence.”

"Legends say that Saraswathi, goddess of learning, created Sanskrit for eternity. Another legend given in a few Puranas say that Saraswathi spoke Telugu (another name for Andhra) when she began to speak, and created Sanskrit when she matured. The standard dictum "Samskaritha
bhaasham Sanskritham" means Sanskrit is a created and refined language from a formerly existing language. Andhra is reinterpreted as Adi Amara, the root language for Sanskrit. Among all languages in India, Telugu contains the largest number of Sanskrit words - about 70 (70%)."

The above lines are taken from the site: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Hindus-946/2008/4/Sanskrit-1.htm

A continuation of the above which includes an elaborate answer to the question "Did Telugu Exist Before Sanskrit Came Into Existence?" is found here

4)Poets and linguists of other languages have praised Telugu.

Tamil poet Subramanya Bharathiyar has praised Telugu in a Tamil song. Also Known as Mahakavi Bharathiyar.
" Sundara Telunginil Pattu Isaippom". Meaning we will sing the song in beautiful Telugu. Though he loves Tamil so much, he accepted Telugu as a sweetest language.

Celebrated French linguist Daniel Negers observed that French and Telugu had a lot of commonalities.

There are numerous references to the above on the internet:
